INSTRUCTOR PROFILE
Elisa is a seasoned Pilates teacher and came to this role in 1998 during recovery from a debilitating dance injury. Her love of teaching and connecting community led her to co-found Grand Street Healing Project in 2018 with her partner Domino Kirke Badgley and after 23 years in the Fitness and Wellness world, she wants to help shift the paradigm of wellness services luxury items to practices that are equitably accessible. The creation of GSHP has opened the doors to continue and broaden this vision.
Her post-rehab results in pilates showed her that we have a great power to be in control of our own healing and it inspired her to teach and share this knowledge. In 2001, she founded Bluming Studio as a place people could study Pilates and Gyrotonic with an emphasis on body awareness and the application of the work to their daily lives.
Her approach to teaching combines her love of movement with her love of visual art and has often been told that this has given her the superpower of x-ray vision. She was fortunate to receive a “first draft” training in 1998 from Peter Roel, Susan Moran and Phoebe Higgins that covered many styles and philosophies of pilates (the big picture) allowing her to infuse those many influences into her sessions. Her philosophy is to teach, not instruct, so the work covered in session is something that the student can grow with and take with them. While her work is framed in the pilates method, her interest in Reiki, dance, anatomy, and somatics inform much of her teaching beyond a single methodology.
Elisa believes that the more we connect to our deep physicality and the more we rewild the body the better able we will be at connecting and taking care of each other.
